Mrs. Kayla Barrier was born and raised in Rutherford County. She attended Rutherford County Schools from Kindergarten forward.
Kayla A. Barrier began working in the legal field at age 16, being a legal assistant/receptionist position for John D. Drake, Attorney at Law. She worked for John D. Drake as she attended Middle Tennessee State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a concentration in pre-law. Upon graduation from Middle Tennessee State University in May of 2008, Kayla began to work for Reno & Cavanaugh, PLLC, as a legal assistant/office administrator. In 2010, Kayla attended Vol State where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with an associate degree of Applied Science in Paralegal studies. Upon graduating in 2011, Mrs. Barrier accepted a job offer with the State of Tennessee Bureau of TennCare working in the Legal Solutions Unit. Shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2016, Kayla began working for John D. Drake again as the domestic relations paralegal. The following year Mrs. Barrier graduated from Nashville School of Law with her Juris Doctorate. She transitioned her role at Drake Drake Clarke and Freeze to an attorney and currently practices family law, wills and estates, and landlord-tenant disputes.
Mrs. Barrier’s interest for a career in the legal field started at the age of 11 when she witnessed first-hand the role an attorney played in helping her friend’s mother get out of a domestically abusive relationship. From there, Mrs. Barrier went on to join the Middle Tennessee chapter of the Young Explorers Program, participating in the sector that focused on law and government. Aside from her career, Kayla loves spending time with her husband, Kyle Barrier and two daughters. Attending “mommy-daughter” gymnastic classes after preparing a huge family breakfast is how Kayla typically enjoys her weekends. Mrs. Barrier’s involvement and passion for a happy family is her motivation that fuels her drive to provide the best legal representation for her clients.
