Kayla A. Barrier began working in the legal field at age 16, being a legal assistant/receptionist position for John D. Drake, Attorney at Law. She worked for John D. Drake as she attended Middle Tennessee State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a concentration in pre-law. Upon graduation from Middle Tennessee State University in May of 2008, Kayla began to work for Reno & Cavanaugh, PLLC, as a legal assistant/office administrator. In 2010, Kayla attended Vol State where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with an associate degree in Applied Science in Paralegal studies. Upon graduating in 2011, Mrs. Barrier accepted a job offer with the State of Tennessee Bureau of TennCare working in the Legal Solutions Unit, and in 2012 she began law school. Shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2016, Kayla began working for John D. Drake again as the domestic relations paralegal. The following year she graduated from Nashville School of Law with her Juris Doctorate.  She quickly transitioned her role at Drake Drake Clarke and Freeze to an attorney. Currently, Kayla practices family law, wills and estates, and landlord-tenant disputes. Her family law practice includes adoptions, child custody, child support, dependent neglect cases, divorce, grandparent rights, and paternity.

Kayla’s interest in a career in the legal field started at the age of 11 when she witnessed first-hand the role an attorney played in helping her friend’s mother get out of a domestically abusive relationship. From there, she went on to join the Middle Tennessee chapter of the Young Explorers Program, participating in the sector that focused on law and government.

Kayla is now listed as a Rule 31 Family Law Mediator. She is willing to host mediation in her office,  will travel for meditations to other offices if needed.

Aside from her career, Kayla loves spending time with her husband, Kyle Barrier, and three daughters. Her involvement and passion for a happy family are her motivation that fuels her drive to provide the best legal representation for her clients.
